BROKENLAUNDRETTE

Fifteen pages / 1,414 image elements / cold wash

Gray creates. The laundrette reprocesses.

The official portfolio does not require parody so much as sorting. Its public pages arrive carrying doom-metal titles, candy-based destruction, rough declarations, nested galleries and enough image elements to turn scrolling into endurance art.

01 / The Minimalist

Image 1 of 109.

A publicly linked project page titled The Minimalist contained 109 active image elements when inspected on September 26, 2026.

This number does not describe 109 unique artworks. It describes HTML: the images a browser is instructed to load, including any repetitions or interface material present in the page.

The first image introduces the work. The remaining 108 introduce the first image’s support system.

02 / Rough love, long scroll

The interface begins to understand the exhibition.

Rough Love + Dead Friends contained 225 active image elements on the same inspection date.

The title promises emotional difficulty. The page supplies it structurally. The visitor scrolls through abundance until the interface begins to understand the exhibition.

This is not necessarily a failure of presentation. It is a second artwork accidentally performed by the browser: an archive that refuses to become frictionless.

03 / The catalogue

Browser stamina as provenance.

Across the fifteen project pages linked from the portfolio and audited that day, the laundrette counted 1,414 active <img> elements.

Again: elements, not unique works. HTML, not ontology.

A conventional catalogue raisonné establishes provenance. This one establishes browser stamina.

The website’s great formal achievement is the collision between rugged physical work and fragile digital archaeology: steel, candy, climbing, destruction—and a page architecture preserved from an internet that still believed every image deserved immediate admission.

04 / Found language

Some satire arrives typeset.

Several published announcements already possess the economy of poems and the volume of amplifiers.

SA—2 / published copyBastard Shamanism.
Third-Rate Alchemy.
Failed Snake-Handling.
Arrogant Greedy Bastard / published materialsTwo Tons of Candy.
Two Thousand Lollipops.
Meaningless Structures.
Destruction.

The laundrette cannot improve these phrases. It can only tag them, place them under glass and confirm that they appeared in public exhibition material.

05 / Title conversion plant

Official title in. Cold-wash equivalent out.

Survival Aesthetics→ Survival Synthetics
God Bless the Child→ God Bless the Cycle
Stupid Candy→ Stupid Laundry Pod

Thrash vs. Trash→ Thrash vs. Wash

No title has been harmed. Several have been placed on delicate.

06 / The scroll is the medium

The archive refuses to become frictionless.

There is a genuine critical point beneath the lint.

The portfolio’s excess resists the current internet’s demand that an artist collapse a practice into six immaculate thumbnails and one frictionless biography. It is unruly, repetitive and difficult to summarize. So are many long artistic lives.

The comedy lies in the mismatch: titles that promise severity; pages that deliver profusion. “Minimalist” language housed in maximal HTML. Monumental sculpture translated into browser archaeology.

The website does not merely document abundance. It reenacts it.

Gray creates. The portfolio accumulates. The browser renders. The visitor descends.

Method & receipts

Counts were made from active <img> elements on fifteen publicly linked Gray Creates project pages on September 26, 2026. They may change and should not be represented as counts of unique artworks or photographs. Project and exhibition titles belong to Matthew Gray; short phrases are reproduced for criticism and linked to their public sources.
